Create and manage reusable character profiles in Flenly
Characters
Characters let you define reusable profiles with descriptions and reference images. When you link a character to a scene, their description is incorporated into the prompt to help maintain a consistent appearance across your video.
Creating a Character
- Go to Characters from the sidebar.
- Click New Character.
- Fill in the character details:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The character's name (e.g., "Captain Nova") |
| Description | A general description of who the character is |
| Reference Image | An image showing what the character looks like |
| Appearance | Physical features — hair, eyes, build, etc. |
| Clothing | What they typically wear |
| Age | Approximate age or age range |
| Personality | Personality traits that affect how they move and express |
| Base Prompt | A template prompt that describes the character for AI models |
Using Characters in Scenes
When editing a scene:
- Open the scene configuration panel.
- Select a character from the Character dropdown.
- The character's description and reference are automatically incorporated into the render prompt.
This helps the AI model generate the character with a consistent appearance across different scenes.
Character Variants
You can create variants of a character to represent different expressions, angles, or outfits. This gives the AI additional reference points for more accurate character representation.
Visual Canvas
The Characters page includes a visual canvas (powered by React Flow) where you can organize your characters spatially. This is helpful for:
- Visualizing relationships between characters
- Grouping characters by project or story
- Keeping your character library organized
Tips
- Be specific in descriptions — The more detail you provide about appearance, the more consistent the AI output will be.
- Use high-quality reference images — Clear, well-lit reference images give the AI better information to work with.
- Keep base prompts focused — Include only the visual aspects that should remain constant across scenes.
- All plans include unlimited characters — create as many as you need.
